CHINA LANDERChina stars from moonCHINA PENETRATING RADAR 2

Early imagery and data from China’s Chang’e 3 lander and Yutu Moon rover.

Photo 1: The ring-like image of the surrounding environment of the landing site pictured by the lander’s panoramic camera. The wheel tracks of the Yutu rover can be …seen in the top of the image. There are also several craters with a diameter of about several meters to more than ten meters. The laser range sensor and the laser 3-D imaging sensors on the lander autonomously selected a safe touchdown site to avoid pitfalls!

Photo 2: Image shows the observed 23 stars by the lunar-based optical telescope.

Photo 3: Image shows an observation from Yutu’s belly-mounted Ground Penetrating Radar at 500 MHZ, profiling the lunar subsurface.
